Everything starts with choosing the right type of cage for your little pet. If he has enough room in which to play, eat and sleep, he will be a happy little hamster. There are basically two types of cages available: the traditional, fixed ones and the modular ones which can be customized constantly by adding tubes, toys, more space for your hamster, or more space in case you bring another hamster as well. If you choose a traditional cage, make sure that there is no way he can actually get out of it by himself. Put in there plenty of toys that are specifically tailored for hamsters in order to keep him busy. Also, make sure that the cage is deep enough, and your hamster cannot sprawl all the dust on your nice carpeted floor.
Taking care of hamsters is an easy job, only if you make it easy on yourself too. Make sure the cage is filled with hammocks, hanging ramps and all sorts of toys, so that they will stay extremely active when in the cage.
